The variation of the drag coefficient with the Reynolds number for an infinite cylinder is a longstanding problem in fluid mechanics. According to my knowledge, the first data on this topic was reported by Wieselsberger in 1923 for a range of low to extremely high Reynolds numbers. I have attempted to find a theoretical equation that can accurately describe this data but have yet to find one beyond those for extremely low Reynolds numbers. Is there a theoretical equation that can cover the entire range of low to high Reynolds numbers for the drag coefficient of an infinite cylinder? I am not interested in curve-fitting equations.
