I and my collegues research radiation resistance in bacteria in the University of Isfahan and we need the standard strain of Deinococcus radiodurans for confirmtion of our results.
If you are going to work at the molecular genetics level, ask for purified DNA to a laboratory growing this bacterium. This is almost costless and shipping is easy since no living samples are involved.
If culture collections refuse to send you a strain (have you really approached all of them?), then you could find out who isolated the strains and contact those microbiologists. But I would first try contacting culture collections. There are culture collections all over the world. Here is a list: http://wdcm.nig.ac.jp/hpcc.html
