I have an oxidized polysaccharide that has both hydroxyl and aldehyde groups. I used sodium borate to make bonds with hydroxyl groups so I can have a schiff base reaction between aldehyde groups on the polysaccharide and amine groups on gelatin. Unfortunately sodium borate is toxic to cells and I need to replace it with another salt or a solution of salts that can do the same.
