Many people have been touting the use of social media in education? Should more schools explore this? At what level of education will this work the best?
To Antonio's list of benefits of social media I would add the opportunity for collaborative learning (which probably fits in student engagement). My daughter is a student in biomedical engineering and several courses have required group projects. I have seen her Skype with members of her teams, discuss and help each other with their segments of the project, and finally put the entire project together. This is a great deal more efficient and less time-consuming than the way it was done in the years BC (before computers). And social media not only inspires creativity in the way subjects are taught but also in the way students work together to solve problems and learn.
Social Media has in many cases a great impact to learning and teaching. It is not only collaboration, it's just communication beyond the classroom in a much more engaging way.
Maybe we can also think it in such a way - use the appropriate tool for your communication and sometimes 140 signs are enough :-)
