For example when we try to study pattern, we miss the process. When we try to capture quantitive, we miss the qualitative; when we capture micro, we miss macro. It seems our methodology is flawed to capture the quantum social reality.
Very interesting observation Prof Bhagat. The multi-dimensional nature and context-driven issues within a specific time frame (whether it is cross-sectional or longitudinal) - make the adoption of any particular methodology inappropriate in social science research. Few factors may be prone to quantitative approach, while few others qualitative and because of the context (micro), results cannot be generalized or be applied at macro level. Dilemma persists. Though mixed methods, abductive approach and other techniques have surfaced, gaps and flaws remain and the quest for the right approach is still on.
