Hi everyone
Given the assumption of normal distribution, and with only the mean and standard deviation being known, is there a straight forward method of back-calculating individual values of the sample that represent a good approximation of the original data ?
I've looked up the matter and all solutions found require a certain level of programming knowledge , apart from an excel function which performs poorly ..
Is there a script or an application to this effect

when you do not know what the original individual values are, you can only assume that any given normal distribution of values, that has the original sample's mean and standard deviation, is the closest you can get to the original values.
This can be easily achieved using R:
# the first line constructs a function to create a sample with a given mean, standard deviation and number of values
