I am investigating intraspecific fur color variants in bats. Since studies are lacking in this perspective in tropics, I set out to try gene primers from certatriodactyls for MC1R and all in vain. Is there anyone attempting to do this sort of SNP correlative studies for fur color? Can anyone suggest alternatives for pinning down primers for these genes? I have tried bat genome and Ensembl won't help me!
Hi Venkatesh, try emailing Emma Teeling in University College Dublin ([email protected]) - she has extensive experience amplifying a vast diversity of bat genes so she or some of her research group might have worked on some of the ones you are interested in.
Hi John, thanks for your reply. I contacted her and few of her colleagues an year ago. I was able to get several primers for MC1R and Tyr 1 from them but it was not bat specific but cetartiodactyls. Unfortunately they didn't work.
