I am trying to reproduce the following research:
https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/abs/10.1089/thy.2013.0101?journalCode=thy
The TL;DR version is that they put supplements suspected of containing thyroglobulin proteins in a mixture of acetonitrile, water and weak TFA. Later, they ran it though an HPLC and looked for signatures of T3 and T4 hormones.
I am wondering if there is any other acid I can reasonably use other than TFA to get similar results? Would formic acid work similarly for this case? Maybe just a higher concentration and longer digestion time? I am in Thailand, and TFA is both very expensive and difficult to source. If I could find an acid or enzyme that was less exotic it would make this substantially easier.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a modification to this protocol to make it easier/cheaper?
