I am currently analyzing the behavior of firms in strategic alliances. Does anyone know if there is a database with strategic alliances/networks? At best, strategic alliances in the US/Dow Jones companies.
If you are looking for detailed information on strategic alliances an industry to consider is Pharma/Biotech. There is a deep literature doing work on strategic alliance research in this industry (see Research Policy, JPIM, AMJ etc). The founders of Recombinant Capital (whom had a great alliance data set in the sector that a lot of folks used) set up another dataset available at: https://www.bioscidb.com
I'd like to recommend a paper published in SMJ which introduces the panorama of alliance databases. As for strategic alliances in the US/Dow Jones companies, I believe SDC alliance/joint venture database is the most proper one.

Securities Data Corporation (SDC) is the most comprehensive and widely used network/alliance database. We used it in our article and you can take a look as an example.

Hi Eike. I agree with Muammer and Peng that SDC is the most used database for strategic alliances. However, in my experience I found that this database is not complete and data are somehow not precise. I suggest you to cross-check SDC by using Factiva database, as Lavie did in a Smj paper he published in 2007. I hope it helps! Best luck for your research!!!
I share the views of my colleagues. SDC is the most comprehensive global database on alliances, however, as Giulio Ferrigno points out, there are certainly missing data on many occasions which, without proper post-processing, can lead to biases or difficulties in applying the appropriate statistical models.
