I am starting works on a project with current working title: Gender Roles in African Philosophy: Appraising the place of women in African traditional society. A Case Study on Setswana and Luo.
Though the more I read I realise my paper will not be filling a gap. Please give your thoughts, opinions, and advice on how I can make it better and more interesting.
Subrina, I am very confident you have a very important issue especially that it is from a philosophically point of view. I have a BA.Phil and I think it is time we started making society realize how philosophy is very important to meet different needs of people in Africa too. I believe philosophy is the only discipline that will provide the answer to many causes of current problems including gender and development issues. It is true that you may find limited literature on gender and women that is purely philosophy for Africa. It is, however, very important to remember joining the on going argument of whether there is anything like African Philosophy. Is what we think is African Philosophy in fact ethnophilosophy. Therefore, would it be better to look at "Gender Role of Women in Ethnophilosophy..... This is because when we look at our situation unlike the western philosophy, most of the literature in Africa will be on different ways of living and trying to see how this could be analyzed philosophically. Placid Temple from Belgium and Zaire (DRC) will provide a lot of insight. You may want to look at Mbiti from Kenya. What are your research questions or Hypothesis? Good luck and enjoy!

Thank you so much for your response, I will indeed look for into focusing on gender roles of women in ethnophilosophy.

Let me know your views on my hypotheses, objectives and research questions.
My hypotheses is that women were the heart of the community.
1. What roles did women play in these traditional societies?
2. What were the beliefs and attitudes towards women in these communities?
3. Were women treated better or worse than what we believe now?
4. What was the impact of religion on the manner in which women were regarded?
I think the project is too open, when you talk about gender it is included much more than women, so I suggest that the title be "The place of women in traditional African society: the traditional knowledge of the Setswana communities and Luo. "
Sorry for taking too long to contribute to your great visionary study. I am not very sure how far you have gone with your study. I was just wondering what is your Research Design. If it is a Systematic literature Review, the questions would certainly bring a lot of data (Data extraction) that would then be analyzed (Meta Analysis). I would, however, advise you to be more specific in your question so that you could find a lot of different specific data. For example question 1 would read as follows:
What role did women play in food production in the Setswana community?
