I am working on the enhancement of heat transfer using nanofluids from the past few years. But sometimes, I think that the research in the applications of nanofluids is saturated. If not, what are the new or underestimated areas of nanofluid applications?

Nano fluids have not become saturated. They are being tested to use as additives in fuels, for improvement of heat transfer, in materials etc.

Great question!
As coolants, systematic and objective evidence shows that nanofluids have little prospects. Most of the early hype regarding anomalous improvements in thermal conductivity has been debunked.
In reality, any moderate enhancement in thermal conductivity is often outweighed by the undesired increase in viscosity. This means that any enhancement in forced convective heat transfer will come at the cost of higher pumping power requirements.
(Some may disagree with the above statements).
But in other application areas, nanofluids still hold good promise, granted that all colloidal and chemical stability issues are properly addressed (which can be highly application-specific).
Two such applications rely on the exceptional optical (rather than thermal) properties of nanofluids: photothermal conversion of solar energy and local hyperthermia of cancerous tumors.
