Is the pH of graphene oxide (GO) important for its application in a water purification membrane?

I am preparing GO by Hummer's method, I want to know if I can use it for water desalination, as a nanoparticle, without neutralization.

no, because the carboxylic function of the GO will retain anyway different cations.
