Many official sources invoked in webpages do not carry a date of publication for reasons related to "evergreen" content.  Is this acceptable by citation protocols in published articles?

One has to contact the site admins about the date of the post, or run a CntrlU inspection to check indirectly the source page and guess a date if they are lucky. What is your own experience?
