Following are my views:-

1. Availibilty of cheap and extensive labour force cannot always replace what technology can achieve

2.Conventional construction methods are slowly becoming redundant in India particularly for ambitious infrastructure projects like metro rail or Bandra-worli Sea link or High rise structures like World towers by Lodha  or Nathani Heights Which wouldnt have been possible by third world construction methods.

3.I believe that for India in order to reach great heights in terms of construction of building and infrastructure it is essential to employ state of the art construction technologies even if it may result in harsh event of few labours loosing their jobs.

well.. that's a good question. talking about Maywan shuttering, it is really economical and time saving, but it can be used only when you have the same type of unit plan, for G+15 and above structures.it also requires skilled labour to proceed with this shuttering method,the initial investment is also comparatively high when compared to traditional shuttering methods 

Sincerely Mustafa, I am not very skilled to answer your question. In fact I do  not know what Maywan shuttering is :-( 

Nevertheless, I can give you a non-educated information based on my observation about what happened in Brazil, where non-skilled labor used to be very cheap (maybe even cheaper) then in India. Originally I graduated as an electrical engineer. In the 1960s and 1970s I used to work as large constructions project manager for European and American companies. By then it was quite easy to hire all kinds of low-level/unskilled laborers (masons, carpenters, painters, installers, etc.). Construction technology was quite primitive, steel building almost inexistent. But this situation started to change in the 1980s as Brazil modernized dramatically. Today, all known technological improvements in construction are used in this country even if labor is still cheap (as compared to the US and Europe). What happened is that computers and related technologies changed completely the scenario and, furthermore, along this period social ascend became a reality; Brazilians struggled for education, went to high schools and even universities, so the cost of labor climbed. The Construction Industry changed because of those two reasons: absorption of newer building technologies became possible and reducing costs became a competitive necessity.

All this to say that I can envision such change happening in your country too. It is the result of urban mobility and globalization. Thus, my answer to your initial question would be a strong "yes."

I quite agree with Tom however this process takes time. Actually my answer is closer to no. 

Right now and in my experience, European construction companies trying to sell modern construction methods and products in India are facing huge difficulties to come up with a positive bottom line. Basically you hit the point in your comment, modern technologies are great due to two factors: time savings and less labour required. 

The fact labour and time is so cheap in developing countries makes it quite difficult to sell them because when you compare with traditional methods they look so expensive. Furthermore you have to take into account those new methods / products /technologies require qualified people that is not always so easy to find in India and sending European people suppose always a huge investment for the mother company. 

Just so you can put some figures and real feeling, look at concrete structures (labour intensive) and steel structures (faster and lower labour required). I guess steel contractors who have decided to go to India must be struggling to make a profit.
