Trying to get the information to compile my views to suggest alternative method of construction for building project where conventional method of construction is used !!
i.e. Form work and in situ casting.
As per the projects I worked on in India, material cost constituted almost over 80% (formwork, concrete,steel) of project cost (labour being cheap) and wastage of almost 10% was observed overall.
Thus influencing project cost by 7 - 10%.
Reducing the same can increase profit margin for building contractors and control over national reserves.

Wastage of material is common issue in India in many areas & especially, in construction, it is on a higher side. In my opinion,
(1) It is because of poor material management or poor monitoring of material use
(2) Poor awareness about material saving as it is being handled & monitored by illiterate and improper knowledge
(3) Curruptions at small level
(4) Misuse and lot of temporary constructions which are to be removed later may be due to either adhoc decisions or to accommodate labour mass on site
