I want to share with you a case I have seen in the last week for the first time.
A pregnant women 24 years old G1P0A0 she is 20 weeks gestation, she had primary herpes simplex infection during her second month of pregnancy and she took 2 courses of acyclovir tab. but the vesicles not resolved as she said, and the pain still present (postherpetic neuralgia).
On exam. the vesicles found on the labia bilaterally and tender.
My question is that can the pregnant women take several courses of acyclovir if the lesion not resolve?
According to the RCOG patient with primary herpes takes acyclovir for 5 days and if recurrence occurs just symptomatic treatment then she should take daily suppressive dose of acyclovir from 36 week till delivery .
