Carbon dots also called carbon quantum dots are zero dimensional nanomaterials having size not greater than 10 nm. They are made up of sp3-hybridized carbon mainly amorphous in nature, which determine that they are semiconductors with physical size less than the exciton of Bohr radius with quantum confinement effect. Therefore they have a energy bandgap inbetween conductors and insulators, which are semiconductors. Hope it helps.
