I participated in a conference with a group of scholars and some of them cited recent papers where the burnout construct is seriously challenged on both theoretical and empirical grounds. Specifically burnout lacks diagnostic criteria and is nothing more than job-induced depression. Can someone elaborate on this?
A lot of researches have been conducted in burnout construct. Its measure have been validated by many scholars, Schaufeli, Bakker, etc.

Thank you Stephen and Renzo. Your references are very interesting and I'd say there is a clear controversy about the construct and the implications go beyond a simple theoretical discussion.
I don't think so. Perhaps an adjustment disorder with depressed mood. It is difficult to escape the depressed mood part.
