I am not a cancer expert, however can make the following two relevant comments.

First (and if my memory is not failing, this idea was first put forward by the chemist and Nobel Laureate George Porter - Lord Porter [1]), cancers in children below the age of reproduction cannot have genetic component, but must have environmental causes. The idea behind this is that since children below the age of reproduction cannot pass down genes to succeeding generations, there cannot be any trace of genes specific to cancers in young children in the genome of modern humans (with the advances in treatments of cancers in children, over time this will naturally change). One must of course take into account that the threshold of the reproductive age has not been a constant throughout history, but has varied considerably.

Second, it has by now been estimated that between 15% and 20% of all cancers arise from viral infections. For this, consult Refs [2,3,4] and more recent publications -- if my memory is not failing, about half a year ago Nature, or Science, published a review on the subject.
