Hello Dr S Sumalatha: A strong background in Mathematics is the quintessence of doing research in Fluid Mechanics. A knowledge of Physics & Chemistry is also of consequence , but not to the extent that Mathematics is, the latter is vital. The highest number of Publications by a Pakistani Scholar , who is also a much decorated scientist , belongs to a Mathematician to boot who has performed ground breaking work in the field of Fluid Mechanics --he learned Physics & Chemistry along the way. A master mathematician , the Professor has over 1300 international publications to his credit. But he may well be a singularity!!

This question is wonderful. However, I find it difficult to interpret the sentence, " he is interested but difficulty is finding problem and doing paper publications."

To be candid, knowledge accusation and discharge of scientific facts can be easily gained through literature review. In such situation, I would recommend exploration of literature review.

If a person is good in mathematics and has command over it, that means he has good logic aptitude and grasping ability. If now he want to do research in Fluid mechanics of course he can. He should start with reading the basic physics books and gradually increase the level to engineering fluid mechanics. Which, at this stage, should be a matter of not more than 6 focused months. after that he will be able to do like masters. Do not run behind paper publication from the start it will a by product of your focused learning and problem solving.

The scholar have to clear the concept at least in physics, so he may do solve the fluid mechanic's problems easily.

Hello, you see, it depends on your goal. You have to plan. How do you plan? You plan by looking into the time frame of your goal. If you are doing your dissertation (PhD. or Masters) no time to start reading from scratch, you would not just meet the deadline. In that case you just need to do extensive literature review using reputable papers, note some points and go to the work you have interest that you can handle and finish your work first. Publishing and growing do not always come by hard work alone, it comes by planing. If you are on your post doc in some school in China where they pay you, you are to return the money back if you don't finish within the time frame. In most cases doing extensive literature review should be the first things not studying deeply chemistry or physics first....just like Isaac Lare Animasaun said. Before you start investing it is a great thing to identify your alternative forgone or else you would not have result expected at a particular point. Have academic plan for a year, two, or even 5 or next ten years. Do what will add to you. I'm not saying you shouldn't Learn Chemistry or Physics but in the right form.
