Sonication or buzz pollination is a technique, used by some bees like solitary bees and bumble bees. This is also pollination syndrome where bees use vibration to extract pollen from flowers.
Crops of solanaceae family contain pollen in poricidal anthers and buzz pollination is must for insects to obtain such closely packed pollen. Although cucurbits have non-poricidal anthers and honey bees are their most important pollinator but crops like pumpkin and cucumber are reported to get benefits from buzz pollination.
