Dear M.Panahi, I want to know is scotch tape is useful for mask deposition under high vacuum. if yes than is there any technical specification available to support the statement. Any experiment detail, or paper
Yes I want to use it in sputter deposition system. I want to protect some portion over flexible substrate using the scotch tape. For your kind information, I have the experience to use scotch tape in PVD. However, I have no evidence it technical specification for sputter system.
Hi Ashish, as far as I know using scotch tape in a vacuum system actually seems to be quite a common practice, and does not appear to cause any significant issues. You should take note of the ultimate vacuum pressure before, whilst, and after using it just to be sure.
The down side of scotch tape is that it does tend to tear easily when removing.
With some success, but be careful where precision films are needed as some glue residue can remain on the surface, and it can also produce some "spatter" as trapped air under the tape tries to escape.
For the best masking I would recommend only using thin sheet metal to cover the substrate, and use tape to secure this, away from the substrate itself.
