Dear connections I need your valuable inputs about the counting of review articles publications in reputed journal for faculty assessment/research excellence award nominations. Is any such restrictions from governing body either at national or international levels that only research articles not review articles will be considered for NAAC/faculty promotion/research excellence awards etc. Please share your opinions
I would say it's pretty institution-specific and also different across fields/disciplines what types of scholarly products "count" or not for promotion, tenure, merit raises, awards, etc. You should ask people in your department/college/institution for specific advice applicable to your specific situation.
Review articles have the same weightage and significance just like research articles for faculty assessment/excellence as per the API across India.
Usually for research award is based on the contribution of scientists in the research by counting their novel findings published in research articles. Reviews are secondary contributing factor in the scientific community
Research or review papers both are academic end products for a researcher, scientist, professor, academician or teacher in higher institutions as quantified by the underlying wisdom in them. Both are the designed and well thought out expressions/sumtotal of research question, hypothesis, objective framing, methods development, experimentation or performing the work, observation, analysis, interpretation and inference.
Similar to Research articles, Review papers form valuable scientific literature as they summarize the findings of existing literature. So readers can form an idea about the existing knowledge on a topic without having to read all the published works in the field. Well-written review articles are popular, particularly in the field of medicine and healthcare. Most reputed journals publish review articles.
It is absolutely useless to create any debate on the comparative superiority of one over another.
A good review article published in a reputed journal may be taken for scientific assessment.
Review articles have only been based on the thorough study & literature survey, Although, it has concise information collected from already published research articles. Therefore, it can't assume similar weightage and significance just like research articles which have noble findings, for faculty assessment/excellence as per the API across India.
However, frequent review papers published by an author show that he or she actively engaged in their research work but it does not give any significant contribution to the scientific community.
Review article also increases the citation that help in promotion, progress report and API assessment.
