I have to revise a paper for submission to a journal selected by the organizers of an important conference that I presented at earlier this year. And, I was actually "red hot" to complete the necessary revisions immediately after the conference; but then the organizers got the journal to grant a 2-month extension on the submission deadline. The extension expires next week. During these past 2 months, I HAVE devoted a good deal of time to "thinking about the revisions" and wonder if thinking rather than doing can be a productive use of time. A while ago, I read at least 2 articles on "effective procrastination" and would love to believe my procrastination qualifies as effective even though I have done nothing but "think" about the task. Is this delusional? Is there really such a thing as "effective procrastination"? If so, what determines effectiveness?
