No it is not! It is a Mediterranean endemic and in last decades it underwent dramatic population declines in many areas. For these reasons, it received high conservation concern. I'd opt for another less problematic species.
Dear Fayza, I'm not very familiar with those kinds of sudies. Nonetheless, I suggest you to search in the scientific literature the most used target species. However, if you want to select a new target species, depending on the experiment you are going to set up, it's important you should take in account also aspects of practical order such as 1) easy availability in the field, 2) easy aquarium rearing, 3) easy reproduction in captivity, 4) optimal individual size, and so on... In any case, I'd avoid the use of any species with conservation concern. If you decide to emply a new species, I suggest you to plan a preliminary pilot study in order to assess the quality of the individual response to the contamination levels.
