I am preparing a manuscript funded by a Horizon 2020 project that is already closed and I do not have budget for publishing open access. I am considering publishing it on Open Research Europe and I would like to know what's the general opinion on this platform. There is no Impact Factor associated to this open access platform, however, they track metrics at an article level to assess the impact of the individual article. They believe that this is a more accurate way of assessing impact of research and I agree with them.
Has anyone here published on ORE? What was your experience? Pros and Cons that I might not have considered?

Dear Simona Paolacci As indicated by Wolfgang R. Dick I would definitely go for it. Nowadays “Open Research Europe” is well-indexed https://open-research-europe.ec.europa.eu Since it collaborates with F1000 (now owned by Taylor & Francis).

I would have only one hesitation (the same why I never tried to publish with F1000) and that is their peer review process. It very much depends on voluntary work of peer reviewers which is of course the case for every journal but I sense the whole process is here more random and potentially attract either those that are extremely enthusiastic or very critical when it comes to your manuscript.
Anyway, this is my personal impression and not based on my own experience. As indicated the people of F1000 are behind this and they have in the meantime a solid based experience and reputation in the scientific publishing world https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F1000_(publisher)
So, if I had like you a manuscript based on a EU funded project I would definitely give it a try.

Hi, I can very much recommend publishing with ORE. First, it is well indexed, second, their policies are really transparent, third, they provide you with service, which is not usual in other journals. Before publishing our paper, it has been carefully read by handling editor, I was asked for several clarifications, it also went through proofread...
Rob's concern about voluntary work of reviewers IMO applies basically to all scientific journals (it already follows form the name 'peer review'). In the case of ORE, it is pretty transparent. Suggestion of reviewers is up to you and they select. They carefully check for conflict of interests, expertise of a reviewer, etc. Of course quality of the review itself depends at the end on the reviewer.
