I will be using laser capture microdissection to collect neurons from various reigons of the guppy brain to use in DNA methylation sequencing but I am not finding information on whether a Nissl staining would be sufficient. I know some people use NeuN but this would add cost and time.

Most older studies used exclusively Nissl stain for the delineation of nuclei in all vertebrates. Carmine red was long preferred till the introduction of paraffin and celloidin embedding.
