Various version of narrative analysis are based on examining metaphors, Idid an internet search on "narrative analysis metaphor" and got over half a million hits.
I wonder how different is metaphoric analysis vs. analysis to arrive at themes? I would appreciate it if you can educate me. According to a quick google search and this website [link], it definitely is.
I would say that themes are created by researchers as a mechanism for summarizing the key elements in their data. In contrast, metaphor analysis seeks to find naturally occurring metaphors that the participants themselves use to describe aspects of the research topic.
Thank you so much for the clarity. I noticed that the participants used certain phrases in their responses which were linking to each other. That made to realize that there are metaphors in the data. Consequently, I end up conducting a follow-up focus group for clarity and verify with the participants.
