If we kill or hurt someone and do good deeds is it okay that we overlook what was done , doesn't that life deserve respect ???

I am not for capital punishment , yet based on evidence and say if it is per-meditated then should that person not be held accountable . I am not saying life for life , it is the pain /agony /the last hope a person sees as life is taken .
