If the drops do not adsorb the particles, depending on the particle-liquid-gas surface tensions, there must be differentiated behavior. In any case, I consider that the adhesion process will be complex and difficult to know the passage of one or another component in filtration, which leads to difficult regulation of the effectiveness of the filtration and therefore, separate two-phase filtration should be more effective

I should note that I have seen examples of so called "candle filters" in liquid phase water treatment systems. Ceramic pore-based filtration.

Could this be a use of the same terminology for a different piece of technology, or an alternative application of the same technology?

The interfacial physical and chemical conditions should not change, but in the case mentioned, when the liquid and not the gas passes through the pore, the pressure in the filtration must drastically change in my opinion
