Greetings...

As we are involved in the treatment of tannery wastewater by using different methodologies, the treatment efficiency can be predicted majorly by the reduction of organic load of wastewater by the estimation COD and BOD. The tannery wastewater samples were collected from  CETP (Common Effluent Treatment Plant) may contain chromium content (used in tanning process) whether it will be on trivalent or hexavalent state. COD estimation by potassium dichromate based on the back titration with FAS (ferrous ammonium sulphate) i.e. residual unreduced chromium ions can be taken for the count.

If the wastewater already contain chromium as one of the pollutant how can we  justify the estimation of COD ?
