Is it possible to use Zigbee and ESP8266 Together for a project?

The task is to make a working demonstrator based on an Zigbee, ESP8266 with a stepper drive and a sensor.

I am open for advices and knowledge related to it.

Not likely. Physical layers are not the same. ESP8266 uses 802.11 and Zigbee is 802.15. If you were to somehow get past that, their software protocol layers are different as well. I suggest that you get yourself another ESP8266. Easy programming with the Arduino IDE makes this a fast platform to develop on. Zigbee has a tendency to be a little steeper on the learning curve and considerably more expensive.
