I would like to know if I attach a piezoelectric disc on a bearing or gearbox (for example r=2 cm, h=0.5) without seismic mass, can I derive fault frequencies from the FFT of its voltage vs time signal? In other words, I do not want to use conventional accelerometers which we convert the acceleration vs time signal to FFT.

If you want to acquire the pressure in any point you can use piezoelectric transducer. Then piezoelectric transducers sense the pressure on it. It is the question what is the pressure you want to sense and how it would be transferred to the transducer. So , it is the question how do you mount the transducer to the machine part.
Conceptually,the transfer characteristics of the piezo transducer can be expressed by:
Q= K P where Q is the charge and P is the pressure in the quasi stationary mode of operation. If it is used in this mode then one can acquire P(t). One can use the main feature of P(t) to diagnose defective parts in the machine.

Yes you can use a piezoelectric transducer , and you going to see new high frequencies in case the fault or flaw in high speed parts. and you will see new low frequencies if the fault or flaw in low speed part.
