i used TSOP4838 as receiver, but i got a digital output (yes or no), but i need an analog output. Is it possible? FYI i use an IR as transmiter

no, i'm having a task from my college to use an infrared to show an actual graph in matlab and it showed a digital output. My lecturer said that i have to showed an analog output, and he said using TSOP4838 as receiver is possible, but i don't believe it.

is it possible to use other receiver with low cost to resolve my problem? (i don't want to use GP2Y0A21YK0F, 'cause it is high cost module)
