According to ASTM G99 " For the pin-on-disk wear test, two specimens are required. One, a pin with a radiused tip, is positioned perpendicular to the other, usually a flat circular disk. A ball, rigidly held, is often used as the pin specimen."

In some studies a cylinder type speciement situated so that its axis perpendicular to a disk, thus the cylinder will contact by its flat surface.

Is it possible to use non-radiused tip according to ASTM G99? Or may be there is another standart for this test method
