I would like to ask on the possibility of transforming the unstable water soluble magnesium-compound (chlorophyll) to the iron-compound (hemoglobin) as the chlorophyll molecule closely resembles hemin, the pigment which, when combined with protein, forms hemoglobin. If you think that's possible, it will open the window for the new artificial blood. Anyone has any published work about this point?
It is a good idea but it is impossible to use chlorophyll instead hemoglobin because the animal's body is different in the antibody for the plant and even if we succeeded in bringing sodium, magnesium, the place to get the blood is very difficult.

The idea is very good. Though impossible now , if this question reaches many across the world, one day it will become possible and that day is not so far. How about introducing green pigment to RBCs or blood platelets in culture?
A much more attainable model for synthetic blood (fully functioning) would be nano-particles (gold or silver) coated with whatever biomolecules we can find that readily take up and release oxygen gas. Chlorophyll may not be the best starting point because it was evolutionarily designed for very different purposes and has functional sites with unwanted activity in this potential application. It really is a great idea though, since you are talking about an abundant, natural and easy to extract compound. I wish you the best of luck!
