I have created a finite element model to optimize for both geometry and material properties of the model . I am doing the optimization in MATLAB and I need to change the geometry/material parameters after each iteration. I have developed an python script to create the geometry but for each iteration, ABAQUS uses CAE tokens to create the geometry. I was wondering if there is a way to submit a python script without using CAE token?

Well, if you are going to use the kernel functions CAE provides, such as changing geometry, meshing, etc, then you must load up CAE, which will use your CAE token. I don't think there is a way around, as that would mean you could use the software without tokens if you think about it.
You could use an existing .inp file and MATLAB to make modifications, obviously whether this is acceptable depends on how much of your geometry is changing. Material properties are very easy to update in text format.

As you mentioned, it is easy to update .inp using MATLAB or Python but my geometry is fairly complicated and I need a CAD software to update it. I am using a parallel optimization scheme and many jobs are running simultaneously. I have access to enough computational tokens but we have just one CAE seat. That means all my jobs should wait in queue because of the CAE token limitation.

Well, all I can think of is to load up CAE once, and write out some .inp files in batches. So wait till you have 10-20 design points you want to evaluate and do it in one go with CAE? Would that work?
