As my reactant is not very stable in MeOH and soluble in water, I am wondering whether it is possible to do reduction in water directly. But I didn't find any examples. Will Pd/C be deactivated by water?
Hi Shuo Chen , here is an article which is available on ResearchGate. It reports the hydrogenation of maleic anhydride using Pd/C in aqueous solution. Obviously there is no deactiovation of Pd/C by water.
Article Liquid Hydrogenation of Maleic Anhydride with Pd/C Catalyst ...
it is not possible to carry out Pd/C catalytic hydrogenation in water. the catalyst will loose the activity In water. For hydrogenation you will need anhydrous medium like glacial acetic acid .
