I have my sample coated on the glass substrate. I would like measure the BET surface area of the film. Is it possible to measure BET surface are for the film with glass substrate.
It is possible to measure the BET surface area of a film coated on glass. However, it requires a very thin glass substrates which can be easily broke into pieces. First you can measure the weight of the glass substrates and then after the film fabrication, thus you know the amount of the substrate on the glass. for the BET, you can break the glass (don't smash them, just make it to small pieces so that they can be put inside of the BET measurement tubes). If the film is peeled off from the broken glass, I believe they won't become powder but still remains in film form may be as small fragments. Usually glass shows nearly zero BET (because it does not adsorb/desorb Nitrogen) but you can measure the BET of only glass substrates before. So whatever, the result you'll get from the measurements is the BET surface area of the film coated onto glass.
