I am fabricating activated carbon from biowaste like peanut shell for supercapacitor applications. Literature shows that all calcination are doing under inert atmosphere and not normal calcination. We dont have facility to do calcination under inert atmosphere. Will it affects the result if I go for calcination without providing inert atmosphere

Derived activated carbon will be vulnerable to oxidation in absence of inert atmosphere and will reduce its effective surface area for adsorption.

So you mean if I am closing the furnace and heating to 700-800 celsius, it gives the result of inert calcination itself?

However, it seems[1] that we can do the job, dear Vishnu Sankar , under the easy condition of some Nitrogen gas flow, non static atmosphere. Pyrolysis (550 ℃) under Nitrogen gas flow (rate 50ml/min) in order to avoid any 'oxygen isolation' effect[1].

the answer to your very interesting technical question is clearly YES. You don't need an inert atmosphere of nitrogen or argon to produce activated carbon from biowaste like peanut shells or similar. The process is called "carbonization in a self-generated atmosphere". For a good example of this very simple method please have a look at the following instructive article:

Using this method helps to eliminate inert gases or reagents. The generated gases during pyrolyze (such as CO, CO2) help to activate porously carbon.
Moreover, the sol-gel method, Hydrothermal, and soft mold don't need inert gases.
