I have a powder dye, although the name was given, any further information regarding the dye is not available from anywhere on the internet. I have contacted the source but have not received a response. I am now in doubt as to whether the product is actually a different dye to the name given. How can I make sure?
1) you can do FTIR to judge if it is an organic or inorganic and what it possibly is. 2) do XRD on the powders and see if they are crystalline or amorphous? and you can compare the scan result with known XRD spectrum of a known compound 3)HPLC is also very useful if your dye is soluble either in water or organic solvent. Do simple test like find pH of dye for acidic or basic properties. Then go for higher level tech like XRD, FTIR, HPLC, NMR......etc....
You simply go through UV-vis spectroscopy and compare it with the std. one as instructed by other researchers. Further you may check it by NMR study along with 2D NMR.
