Software re-factoring has been done to improve the internal behavior of any code or application. After the re-factoring, some of the programs may report defects (say behavioral changes or compilation errors). After classification of these defects, how can we generate test cases individually for each set of classified defects ? Is there any specialized algorithm or methodology to do so ?
Also is there any possibility to classify the defects directly from an IDE ?
Accoreding to the Test Driven Development paradigm. Before writing the behavior of a function a test has to be implemented. Because first you have to understand the required behavior and how it should be tested. Refactoring changes the behavior of the programm. If you change the test code automatically leads to uncovered defects or failures. In worst cases an automatic refactoring of the test code may cover those defects and leave it undetected in the code.
If after refactoring the test code has compilation errors the semantik of the code under tast was changed. Also in this case a manually rework shall be considered.
