Regarding the part of your question about diagnosing glaucoma by sectioning the brain. The answer is "Yes". Glaucoma can be diagnosed that way also. studies have shown that the glaucomatous damage is not restricted to eye only. THe optic nerve, the chiasm, the lateral geniculate nuclei as well as the primary visual cortex are involved.
