I am preparing reduced graphene oxide by using plant extracts...I was thinking if I could use TLC (in addition to UV and IR) to detect the reduction reaction by the increase of hydrophobicity which might result in an increased RF when using an organic solvent.
This is interesting, many challenges are associated with this due to variable particle size, multiple components.

we can use an organic solvents like : acetone, methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, ethylformamide, dichloromethane, o-xylene, and n-hexane.
Hi Dima, I think that TLC combined with Raman microscopy can give you important information regarding r-GO, see the attached paper and one only reviewing the characteristic D and G bands in GO, r-GO, and graphite flakes. Also, there are two nice papers: Zhu et al. ACS NANO (2010) 4, 2429-2437 and Thakur et al. Carbon 50 (2012) 5331-5339 about the organic reduction of GO using phytoextracts and sugar, it will help you to enhance the state of the art of your work. My best. Juan
