I have synthesised copper oxide (I) nanoparticles which shown good photocatalytical properties by oxidation ethylene glycol during 3 hours. But later EG concentration was not changing. Copper +1 reduced to coper 0. Do yu know any photocatalysis which can oxidate EG under visible light during many many days? Thanks
For your catalysts, have you looked at O2 concentation's effect on catalysts? Have you compared Cu2O films against your nanoparticles? Also, you might look up the TiO2 and similar semiconductor systems that do alcohol oxidation. It might be that the Cu2O is just acting as a semiconductor and you don't need Cu in there to do the chemistry.
Cu is formed inclemently, it's our problem. I know about alcohol oxidation with TiO2, but EG is very stable. I read only 2 articles about EG oxidation with TiO2 and nothing else. It very difficult to oxidate EG. Cu2O has low band gap, about 1,65. So EG oxidation is possible under visible light. And I do not know is it true: oxidation of EG under visible light in the presence of TiO2 for example. Have you done such tests?
