In the laminated glass industry, PVB interlayers are sandwiched between glass sheets and pressurized/heated in autoclaves. The PVB interlayers are normally trimmed as close as possible to the glass edges to prevent overlap. This would leave the glass edges bare (maintaining their -OH surface chemistry) while allowing the PVB interlayers to bond the glass surfaces. Is it possible that during the autoclave process, the PVB can somehow alter the surface chemistry of the glass edges that are not in direct contact with the PVB? Either through degassing or other phenomena?

Thank you.
