Freedom and these degrees of equality are not incompatible. They are cumulative elements of an Estate of Law. However, "negative liberties" as the restriction of economy intervention have been falsely used as an argument by populist governments as an obstacle to reaching equality (in outcome and in opportunities).
The possibility for citizens to enjoy both freedom and equality rely on the level of education and political participation, and the commitment of economic and political elite with democracy.
