Publicly sharing the full text of research papers on RG can increase the chances of the work being cited, however, what to do in case the research paper was published on a subscription (free) journal with copyright issues?

If your paper published is open access . You can share ur paper on Research gate.
You can share the version before the peer review in the RG. That won't have any copyright issue. It is applicable for most of the publishers. However, please read the terms and condition of the journal first before taking any step.
You are responsible for any content you upload or share on ResearchGate, so it’s important that you check the agreement that you signed with the publisher. As mentioned by Dr. Shirshendu Roy , Some publishers allow authors to share preprints and accepted manuscripts under certain circumstances.

yes ,if research paper is already published you can because research is for helping society .
I agree with all the answers. Some journals even advise you to share your research on Research gate like JCEST journal.
