My paper (a review on indium sulfide buffered chalcopyrite and CdTe solar cells from various deposition techniques) was rejected by a reviewer saying solar cells are recognized by absorbers only and that buffer layer doesn't contribute toward improving the efficiency of a solar cell. I don't agree with this statement. Could anyone shed light on this please? Thank you.
Well he's only right inasmuch as the buffer layer is nothing without the absorber. However, there are thousands of papers on improving solar cell components that are not the absorber - just think of all the papers on surface passivation of silicon. So your reviewer is wrong but probably he/she just misunderstood, maybe you can clarify what your paper is about somehow.
In solar cell,
absorber layer contributes the electrical efficiency, where as your buffer layer helps to improve the optical efficiency
better you mention it in your paper as: "buffer layer for solar cell application"
and also refer my papers for the same/
