in some aquaculture facilities, you can find labs (microbiological and wet labs) for research objectives. in many cases, you have to do pathogen challenges for better consequences and analysis of your results. so, my exact question is that is it ok to done pathogen challenges in animals, especially fish, farms. If it is not ok, is there any references that cite this content clearly and with convincing reasons?

If you want to do pathogen challenge test on fish in farm conditions then the Answer is No. There are many reasons-
1. After challenge test using any pathogen you need to disinfect the whole system (fish + culture water) before discarding. So it will be difficult to treat the whole farm (environmental concerns)
2. I don't know what will be the stocking density of fish or the volume of culture water of your farm, but the amount of LD50 or LC50 required will be expensive, respectively (economic concern)
3. To administer LD50 to huge number of fish is a laborious job (Manpower)
4. Cross contamination with other microbes present in the culture water (Authenticity)
There are many reasons to support that it will be unethical to do challenge test in farm conditions. Better use a controlled system which will be convenient.
